Fiesta Repair and Restoration
Fiesta is a colorful dinnerware that was first introduced in 1936 by the Homer Laughlin China Company at the Pittsburgh China & Glass Show. Frederick Hurten Rhead, a second-generation Stoke-on-Trent potter, designed the original line. Originally, Fiesta was offered in red, yellow, cobalt blue, ivory, green and turquoise.
In the 1950s, Fiesta colors were shifted to a softer, more pastel palette. When earth tones came into style in the late 60s, Fiesta was redesigned again and due to slow sales, withdrawn from production in 1973. In 1986, after Bloomingdale's requested Homer Laughlin to reproduce the dinnerware line, Homer Laughlin reissued Fiesta dinnerware in a new color palette. Fiesta dinnerware is still in production today, and Homer Laughlin regularly introduces new colors to the line. To date, there have been 38 colors in the Fiesta line, but this is ever changing because a new color is introduced every year.
Fiesta is known for its simple Art Deco design, which is characterized by a band of concentric circles that start at the rim. On Fiesta mugs, handles were full-circle until 1969 and now feature partial-circle handles.
